Writing
I am currently working on a series I call the Alchemy series. In ancient manuscripts from the 4th century, alchemists wrote in obscure terms of infusing matter with spirit and rendering the spirit material. They blurred the lines between science and magic. This was their “opus magnum” or “great work.”
We are all alchemists; we work to transform the base and the toxic into a life of beauty and wisdom. This is our own “great work.”
For me painting is alchemy; I blur the lines between the spiritual, the psychological and the scientific. I combine ground metal, in its base form, with pigment in an attempt to create a life affirming, multi-layered, ethereal dream.
